Just relplying to the post you left on my site. In answer to your question I am studying at National Central University. But that is ending as of this semester when I will transfer to work in Taipei.

Unlike most young foreigners who come to Taiwan, I am here for a professional reason. I agree with the HC-Bushibans in their hiring practices because I personally believe that simply having grown up in an English speaking country should not entitle a person to earn 2-3 times more money than the tallented Taiwanese teachers that usually put in all the hard work building a student's foundations.

These elite bushibans, whilst capitalising on a parents desire to have an english speaking child also dont mess about.

Personally, Im here to be an engineer, and if that means i have to earn 50% of what an Liberal Arts Major turned 20hr/week english teacher to kindergarden kids does, then so be it.

Ultimately, I believe my chinese will develop faster as a result. And THAT is my reason for being here.

Oh, Alex. I'm not sure if you are refering to HFRB teachers as 20hr/week teachers, but I can assure you that it is more like 40 hours a week IF you aren't in the process of developing curriculum like I am. In my case it's much more.

Very interesting. I was a 3D-engine programmer, and then a Unix/web admin for a few years before I came out here. I also wanted to learn Chinese. In my experience looking for engineering work here, despite my background, I mostly got offers for technical writing and editing.

Working at buxinans has dramatically improved my ability to talk about grammar, pronunciation isssues and behavioral issues, but not much else. I'll probably save up money for several years and then go to ICLP.

Out of curiousity, if Chinese and non-teaching related work was your goal, why didn't you go to mainland China? I know plenty of people who have gotten engineering related work there.
