豪情壯翅!
November 18th, 2005 by Mark豪情壯志 is a Chinese saying that means “heroic sentiment and robust determination”. KFC’s Slogan is 豪情壯翅 , or “heroic sentiment and robust wings!”
KFC is about the best advertiser in Taiwan. Heck, they’re getting free advertising from me, they’re so funny! I don’t really feel like translating the whole commercial though, so if you don’t find it funny just pass it along to a Chinese friend. That way somebody will enjoy it besides just me.

Remember I told you that this commercial is based on an historical event that took place in 四行倉庫, which is in 上海? I just looked online and found more information about the backdrop.
四行倉庫 literally means 四個銀行的倉庫, a treasury warehouse that keeps important goods from the major four banks in Shanghai. It’s situated on the Northern side of Su Zhou River. When Japanese troop invaded Shanghai from North, 四行倉庫 was the last place that wasn’t taken on the northern side of the river. The regimental commander, 謝晉元 and his man(about 800 of them, so they’re called 八百壯士) defended for 四行倉庫. By then the southern sidewas still safe, where Chinese people could still see firefight. Among the people, a girl scout 楊惠敏 saw numerous Japanese flags on the northern side, but there’s no Chinese flag seen at all, she decided to swim across the river and deliver the flag to 四行倉庫. And then she did deliver the flag to 謝晉元(that explains why she has the scount salute). Shanghai people was lifted up by 楊惠敏’s act and were cheered to see the flag.
The thing about the 四行倉庫 event was not just about 楊惠敏’s act. In fact because 謝晉元 and his 八百壯士 defended 四行倉庫 and delayed Japanese attack, 500,000 soilders retreated safely from Shanghai. The act shattered
what the Japanese government claim to the world, that Japan would eliminate China within three months. (”三月亡華”)
