Here are the lyrics. If you need to know how to pronounce them, copy and past them into Adsotrans.

baby

I ask girlfriend how you been
You're my girl my girl my friend
How much I love you so so much baby
I'm sorry you're my sweetheart My love My one&only baby

Wow, that little yellow book sounds pretty bad. I've never heard of that one. The little yellow books with weird pinyin I've blogged about are different. They're for students who have already finished AV Chinese 2, and I think they're actually pretty good. I'd stick with the Practical AV Chinese, or the Far East Everyday Chinese.

Mark, I went to Pioneer yesterday and it looked good. I'll probably be studying one to one for the moment. And the textbook will be, as you predicted, Audio-Visual Chinese.

They offered me a yellow textbook with simplified characters, as I'd told them I had started learning in China, but I pointed out that I knew so few characters, it didn't really matter. And plus, I leafed through the book, and the pin yin looked, well, a little odd. Then I got to a list of words I knew and saw

zaijian = how much does it cost?

I asked her if zaijian really meant how much does it costs, and she hurriedly put the book away, saying it was written by a private school.

That sounds great actually. I have just placed a deposit on a beautiful apartmanet by Guting MRT, so that will be, as they say in Taiwan, very convenient.

Well, I'm not sure what part of town is convenient for you, but if you live near Shida, then I recommend Pioneer. It's right across the street from Shida, they use the same books, enrollment's a snap, and it's much cheaper than Shida. If you really want to improve, the teachers at Pioneer will push you, but most of the students there are either there for the visa, or else just "Asia bums" passing through. As a result, in a class of eight, after the first couple of weeks there will only be three or four people coming each time. It's about as "low intensity" as it gets, but due to the small class sizes, you can still learn quite a bit there if you want to. I don't know if this phone number's still good or not, but here's the contact info:

Pioneer Language Center
200 Heping East Road, Section 1, 6th Floor
Taipei, Taiwan

Mark, I have a stupid question - do you know anywhere in Taipei that's good for taking low intensity Chinese classes? I want to start studying again, but probably about 6 hours a week.
