When my bf' lived in taiwan, he complained about garbage truck much. he hates the music of garbage truck. he have told me he would sue them for noise. ^^ at the first time, he heard the music of garbage truck, he thought "it is music of ice cream truck" and wanted to go downstairs to get one. @@" it is not convenient for people to take out gabages if you are not at home and gabage trucks come.

Kanwa-san,

I think the way it works in Taiwan isn't too bad as long as I'm not working and I can be at home when the truck comes. I still like the Japanese system more, though.

Mark-san,

In Japan, garbage truck drivers collect garbage and trash bags by themselves as long as you leave your bags in the designated manner at the designated place and time.

In China, A lot of sanitation workers busily gather trash and garbage everywhere all day long. They kindly collect the bags left on every landing in my apartment house.

In Taiwan, thanks to the truck drivers you can exercise your body or promote friendship with local people every time you take out the bags. Which system do you like best?

The trash truck comes past my apartment in Taichung at 6 am in the morning. The morning I work up early enough to take a few bags out it was raining too much for me to bother. If it came past in the evening some days I'd actually get my trash out. They don't seem to come past on Sundays in my area either.

When I lived with my girlfriend's grandfather near Yongan Market, the driver of the garbage truck that came down their street would always give me a creepy wave. During my first few days since moving out into my own place, I think I was known throughout the neighborhood as "that foreigner who chases the trucks." Its harder here to tell where the sound is coming from as the trucks pass the main intersection and go into many different directions. My first time depositing the trash at the truck down my neighborhood involved me running about 30 yards to catch it, the whole time, the guy riding on the back of the truck was watching me. After a few brief conversations with neighbors I finally know when to step outside. I'm usually a little early, but so are the neighbors, we usually talk about the weather as we wait for the sounds of the garbage truck.

Oh, but I do, Smokey. I probably write three times as much on my English blog as I do on my Chinese blog. Thanks for the editing tips, BTW. :)
