Mark-san,

> You can use the “Japanese card” here in Taiwan.

If I were a bird, I would fly to Taiwan. Oh, it's just like an example in English textbooks. I have happy memories of my only visit to Taipei and Hualian more than twenty years ago. I'm in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin Province now.

Most of my Chinese friends, I love them very much, are between forty and fifty years old. This generation don't seem to have much anti-Japan sentiment. They say the people under thirty tend to hate Japan strongly because of education, propaganda and Internet.

No... that would be a bad idea on the mainland. You can use the "Japanese card" here in Taiwan, though. My buddy Yoshi got out of a ticket when he was going 40kmph over the speed limit without a license by just talking to the police in Japanese. Have you ever visited Taiwan? Most people here like the Japanese.

PS. Where in China are you?

I envy your “English card” though it didn't work well in the basement. If I played the “Japanese card”here in China, a situation might get worse because of growing anti-Japanese sentiment.

Damn, playing ping pong and chess like a bunch of rowdy baboons, and then leaving behind healthy food. The laowai image will never recover.

The apartment game sucks. I'm having trouble finding one now, and school starts in only a week or two. The places I talk to on the phone give me crap because I'm a foreigner, and with the a train company being on strike, and the winds stopping all the trains anyways, I can't even go to the agent in person. It sucks the big time.
