What’s up with Page Rank?
April 14th, 2006 by MarkSince my Google Toolbar for Firefox has a page rank checker built into it, I’ve noticed what page rank various sites have from time to time. My blog stubbornly remained at zero from the time I started it until last week. Now, all of the sudden, it’s five. What’s up with that? While, a higher rank is cool and all, such a rapid change kind of makes me doubt the system’s validity.

(from what I understand) Google’s index is huge, and so they can’t (and probably wouldn’t want to) update PageRank in realtime, so they do it in regular update cycles. Your page, since the last update cycle, broke some threshold that allowed it to get a real PageRank (because 0 is just a placeholder for sites that Google isn’t sure about).

Perhaps it’s timed with the recent software change on http://www.chinese-forums.com? Maybe his turning url links back on caused it. They seem to get indexed quite often!
