Why I Haven’t Posted Videos of my Class
January 6th, 2006 by MarkI’ve been blogging about teaching quite a bit. It’s only natural since it’s such a big part of my life. One really nice thing is how supportive my boss has been about it. We video tape all of our classes, for training purposes, among others. He let me take home DVDs of all my class, and said it was fine to put whatever I want on my blog. Unfortunately, our video set-up isn’t very good, and the video quality is pretty bad. Still, I’m planning on uploading some of my classes to youtube as soon as I fix the other problem. The video and the sound aren’t synced. I know some of you would like to see my classes and hear me using Chinese (I haven’t forgotten, Grandma). I’ll get some video up as soon as I figure out how to. Unfortunately, it may be quite a while. In the mean time, I’ll be posting pictures and other things.

I’ve had problems with the synching too. I uploaded a video that was originally in synch, but after I uploaded to YouTube, it wasn’t. I’m not sure what can be done about that, but I’d be interested in hearing what solution you can come up with…

Oh. Actually, I don’t have any problem with youtube. The problem is our extremely cheap video system at the school. It’s only a $10,000台幣 video camera and worse still, it has a wireless interface with insufficient bandwidth.
I have a guess about your youtube problems, though. Are you converting the files to FLVs yourself or are you letting youtube do it? If you aren’t converting them to FLVs first, try the Riva FLV Encoder. It might help.
