Cinnamon Roll!!!
January 21st, 2007 by MarkLast night, I went out to eat with some faux Italian food with some buddies, and Franc had an interesting surprise afterwards. He led us to a Duncan Donuts, which I hadn’t even realized existed in Taiwan. Unlike Mr. Donut and its disappointing Japanese imitations of doughnuts, these were the real deal. I hadn’t eaten a real US-style doughnut in four years, and so I could barely restrain myself. I managed to limit myself to a box of six. TC captured the moment perfectly:

I devoured them, and between mouthfuls still felt the need to explain exactly how great they were. I don’t think I’ll be going often, but it sure was worth it go once.

credit should go entirely to TC. I knew they had one in Taipei, but it wasn’t my idea to go there.

That ain’t nothin’. I was eating Dunkin’ Donuts in Jakarta, Indonesia over ten years ago. We’d swing by after church on Sundays and pick up a couple. Of course, I was on the cross-country running team at the time, so my 7% body fat was unaffected (Now it’s a different story — I’m trying to lose a couple pounds I picked up over Christmas)

You trying to lose a couple pounds!!? No, way! I could have sworn that you were incapable of being anything other than a skinny bastard. It must have been all the running.
Amazingly, even though I’ve failed for the most part with my dieting, I’ve been getting steadily leaner since moving back into the city last fall. The only difference is I’m working out 2-3 times a week now.

Hmm, see I consider myself a pretty big fan of donuts, and the few times I tried the Mister Donut variation I really liked it. And Dunkin’ Donuts is pretty good, not amazing in my opinion (though I can see why you’d be happy to find one in Taiwan), but nothing beats a small-town freshly made greasy donut–nothing at all.

They were good, though the frosting was too waxy on some of them. Still, better than no frosting at all or just a little dab like Mister Donut. All I can say is, it’s good that I don’t frequent that neighborhood very often, otherwise I’d be eating them all the time.

You don’t like mister donuts? They are totally the ultimate donut, and as you say so Japanese. The very limited amounts of flavor and frosting are the most crucial part because they make you appreciate what flavor and frosting you do get

Dunkin Donuts have always given me nightmares if I eat them less than 2 hours before going to bed…must be the icing or something.
