HDR Photo, Dinner at the Beer Factory and Other Friday Fun
May 5th, 2007 by MarkTonight, Poagao came over and we worked on the layout for his new web page. It took some time, but I think it looks way cooler than it did before. Now, the monkey statue looks like it means business. It’s a bit hard to describe, so here’s a screen-shot:

He also showed me a photo that drives home all the complaints I’ve been hearing about HDR photography. Not only did it look like it was a painting done by some 18th century Frenchman high on absinthe, but I couldn’t even recognize that it was a shot taken from my own apartment, a view I see every day.

Around ten, we headed over to the Beer Factory and met up with the same group as last time, plus a few others. EmKid made it this time, too. It was another great Friday.

That monkey does look cool.
HDR can be cartoonish looking as you mention, but it can also look realistic. I put a post on my blog a while ago talking about it, with some links to tutorials that demonstrate the realistic version of HDR and how to get images to look like photo’s.

Thanks so much for your help with that maze of coding and technical details; I never could have navigated it myself.
That HDR photo is actually just one shot, but the effect is similar to some of the more egregious HDR pictures out there.

Hey, no problem. Thanks for lending me the books! I’ve already finished Red Mars, and I’m on to the next one.

I actually find that some HDR is really cool. Even though it doesn’t look like reality, it makes things sometimes look like in a dream.
