Please carefully re-read my first very short comment, and try to take it in entirely. All praise to everybody's good points! But let's not just sweep the ugly negatives under the rug.

It's one thing to "call" someone a racist and quite another to demonstrate it. The term "smear" implies that falsehoods are used to vilify someone.

The link I included (with several other links within) is from a site that also included many positive takes on Ron Paul. Go to the web site, and type "Ron Paul" in the search box in the left-hand column to see more.

"[L]ast century"! LOL! I don't think I can top that argument.

Ugh. That's the same smear piece somebody linked to yesterday. I suppose it's a simple matter of politics. If he's got you beat on the issues and has a real grassroots movement behind him, call him racist! The only problem is that neither you, nor the site you linked to have a shred of evidence. They're talking about a newsletter from last century that wasn't even written by him.

In this election, the two big issues for me are ending the war in Irag, and reversing the slow march towards becoming a police state at home. Paul is the only major candidate who has the conviction to do the former, and the only one to make much of an effort at all towards the latter.

Hundreds of thousands are dying abroad, and millions are locked up for non-violent (mostly drug) crimes at home. This is not the time to engage in fruitless witch hunts based upon guilt by association from decades ago.

If you really want to know what he'll do, you should just look at how he voted on key issues.

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul's Record
    * He has never voted to raise taxes.
    * He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
    * He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
    * He voted against the Patriot Act.
    * He voted against the Iraq war.
    * He advocates ending the War on Drugs.
    * He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
    * He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

I strongly suggest you take a look at this side of Ron Paul before being swayed in either direction by that video clip alone.
