Ron Paul Tops McCain in Cash on Hand, Wins First New Hampshire Straw Poll

July 8th, 2007 by Mark

There are a couple of signs of progress in the Ron Paul campaign- he won the first New Hampshire straw poll, and he came in number three amongst GOP candidates in cash in hand. The New Hampshire straw poll was from a group focused on tax reform, so a Ron Paul victory is hardly surprising. It is still a step up after being excluded from speaking to a similar group in Iowa recently. Surpassing the former front-runner McCain in a major fundraising benchmark is huge, though.

ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos Reports: Though often regarded as a longshot candidate for president, Republican Ron Paul tells ABC News that he has an impressive $2.4 million in cash on hand after raising an equal amount during the second quarter, putting him ahead of one-time Republican frontrunner John McCain, who reported this week he has only $2 million in the bank.
