The Last Place I Expected to See an Old Co-worker Was on TV
February 12th, 2007 by MarkTwo weeks ago, I was over at Prince Roy’s place, and we had the TV on. A familiar face on a comercial made me do a double take, and then I realized it was my old co-worker Ben!

yes, I am highly impressed. And to think I’ve met the legend myself!

I, too, feel special for having met the amusing foreigner on TV and yet again, I’m amazed with what a small world it is, especially when it comes to foreigners in Taipei. I’ve concluded that the standard here is two degrees of separation rather than six. It would be an interesting experiment to pick a random (not famous/notorious) foreigner and see how many steps it takes to get a letter back to that person by handing it off to other foreigners on the street!

Yikes. That’s a pretty horrible commercial. I assume Ben can understand what they’re saying?

Yep. He sure does, Maoman. What did you expect, a reasonable portrayal of foreigners in Taiwanese media?

Geez Maoman, your commercial portrays laowai as beer swilling party animals. That may be true, but the beer I swill is generally not Taiwan Beer.

That woman would be the last person I’d want to go for a walk with. And having to listen to her talk with a mouth full of food…
