Toshuo is Migrating
March 5th, 2007 by MarkToshuo.com is in the process of changing hosts. Soon it will all be hosted on Dream Host, thus making it one of the cool kids again. I’ll have over 1.7 terabytes of bandwidth a month, too! Details will follow shortly!
Update: The migration is complete! Toshuo.com, as well as all of my other sites and the sites I’m hosting for other people have been moved. Bandwith is now virtually unlimited, and there’s over 175GB of disk space allocated to me as well. It’s also a $2/month cheaper than Hostgator, and automatically comes with full shell and support for Ruby on Rails, among other things. Thanks to John, for prodding me to make the switch.

I’m looking into some web hosting for the IEEE Security in Storage Workgroup (i.e. IEEE P1619.x) and was thinking about using something like GoDaddy. I would like to get some Ruby on Rails, though, to give it a spin. Is Dream Host a better deal than GoDaddy?

Yeah. Of course I think Dream Host is a good deal; that’s why I’m hosting my sites with them. They’ve also had rails support for a long time. One thing that steered me away from Go Daddy is that there’s been a lot of news on Reddit about people who have had their sites shut down by them due to a variety of reasons. With something like the IEEE Security in Storage Workgroup, though, I doubt you’d have those problems.

I’ve been noticing some performance issues with toshuo.com today. Have you seen these as well? Is this a problem with DreamHost, or something else?

Someone’s been hitting my site with a DOS attack. No idea why, but I’ve been talking about it with my host. They’ve blocked the offending IP, and I guess we’ll see if that takes care of it.
