You Can’t Touch this English!
September 19th, 2007 by MarkI love it when other teachers put up videos of their students. This school is obviously quite a bit different than mine is, but the kids sure are cute.
Here’s the final performance. The costumes sure were involved, but they didn’t have real hammer pants like I’d never admit to having wanted when I was 12.

What am I doing teaching sentence patterns all day when I could be teaching my kids Hammer songs?

sounds like they are saying [what is known in Taiwan as] “Kentucky.” could be useful when deciding what to eat.

You know, MJ, I thought the exact same thing. I would never let kids say “ca” instead of can’t 50 times, and I’d make sure they knew that the m in “I’m” necessitates closing their mouths.
I didn’t want to say anything, though, because I’m a teacher myself. After putting so much of my time and effort into teaching, there’s really nothing that sucks more than a hostile response from the internet when I put up a video. I don’t know if their teacher is even allowed to speak any Chinese to them. If he isn’t, that would sure make cleaning up their pronunciation problems a lot of trouble.

Well Mark, that would make you an excellent teacher. Personally I would have been too embarrassed by their pronunciation to publish that video, but that’s just me.
Andres, hahaha!
