Spiders Which Are Fast
August 5th, 2008 by MarkThere’s nothing worse than the feeling of waking up, rolling over to the side, seeing a big spider on the wall, gasping and seeing the thing motor across the wall. I swear, these things are faster than cockroaches.
Just what kind of spider is this that can move so f@#$ing fast? Is it poisonous? Can the thing zip up to me, pump necrotoxins into me and then disappear in a blur? I’m no fan of spiders, but nothing creepy should be this fast.
Fortunately, it seems the geckos have driven these eight-legged bundles of energy off… for now.

Ha - I think it’s a Taiwan blogger curse - seems like everyone gets one of these guys eventually. But is that a baby spider in the second photo? Does that mean you’ve got a family of these things ~growing~ somewhere in or near your apartment??
Have you considered moving?
By the way, the answers to your questions can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparassidae

Nah, it was fully grown. I was seeing one about once a week for a while, but they seem to be gone now, thanks to limited food supply.

Hey Mark,
This has nothing to do with spiders but I don’t know how to contact you other than leaving messages on your blog. This is Mike whose birthday you went to at Taiwan Beer Bar last August 8th. I just got back to Taiwan and its time for another birthday so I’ll be at The Brass Monkey to watch the Olympic opening ceremony this Friday night. Tommy is back in Japan but Anne should be there as well as some NTU classmates. If your free, I hope you can make it as well. Either way, let me know via email.

The only place I have ever seen these were at schools that I have taught at. I usually kill them quickly. I would freak if I found one in my house, but if I did I would make a video about it. It would be a follow up to “To Kill A Cockroach“.

you should encourage spiders. They eat a lot of nasties, keeping in check pests that you should really be worrying about. Spiders are our friends.
