I think one person buys the game and everyone gets a copy. I'm not sure if they do torrents.

I believe many of them download the game image files from torrent sites, and swap them with their friends.

Wow. I must hang out with an exceptionally upstanding segment of the populace.

Do any of these guys say where they're getting the copied games?

I don't know if buying games is necessarily the norm. I know about six coworkers who got wiis. All but one of them are modded. If there wasn't so much piracy, maybe there would be more localized games.

I work in Taipei for a software company and I have a few co-workers who have an X-Box 360 (as do I). They kind of laughed at me when I told them I actually *bought* games, as apparently they have hacked their consoles and just buy the cheap pirated copies of the games that work on their hacked systems.

As a side note, I actually *won* a Nintendo Wii with that Wii Fit accessory last year at my company party - I beat this other guy at that chinese dice game with the cups to get it. However, since I already had the X-box, I traded it for an iPod Touch that someone else had won that night. The iPod Touch then went into the hands of my girlfriend as a gift.

I would love to surprise John with one for his birthday, but I know what our lives would turn into with a Wii in the house. We're mighty tempted though...
