I’ve been having great results with the Dr. Seuss books I’ve been using in my 1st and 2nd grader’s class. In fact, it almost feels like they were made to go along with the oral spelling drills I’ve already been doing. The kids love them, too.

Just as happened earlier this year, I’ve been chain-blogged again! Chain blog posts are like chain emails, except more social and not so annoying. This time, Range tagged me. The topic of this one is “Five things that you didn’t know about me”. Here goes:

Who could come up with something as whack as red bean flavored Kit Kats? Apparently, not the Taiwanese. No, no… the convenience stores have to import this stuff for us. Thank goodness for Japan.

I bought them out of morbid curiosity, but get this- they were good!

The major downside of taking on my current entrepreneurial project is the money that I’m not making any more. This pain has been further compounded by the fact that the stock I’ve been wanting to buy has grown by over 30% in the last two months.

As I mentioned last week, since joining my new school, I’ve created a new buxiban program. There are quite a few non-teaching responsibilities involved. One is entrance tests, and explaining my system to parents of prospective students. While those duties are extremely important from a sales perspective, I spend the vast majority of my time and effort on curriculum development.

While I was at Dean’s place chatting about my upcoming move, I got a call out of the blue. It was my old buddy Warren, and he was in Taiwan! He couldn’t have picked a worse week to visit, but hey. When an old buddy of more than a decade shows up from halfway around the world, you’ve gotta at least meet him for dinner- and that’s exactly what I did.

One thing I haven’t written about recently is what I’ve been doing job-wise. There’s quite a bit to blog about, but I’ve been so busy actually working that I haven’t had the chance. I’ve also wanted to sort out my ideas mentally before putting them to print.

The last few days have been torturous. I have a crushing work load that I have to get done soon, and it’s been incessantly noisy at home. It’s pushed me to the breaking point.

Recently, I’ve seen a huge increase in the number of complimentary comments from Chinese people in my comment moderation queue. About 95% of these comments start with

and then go on to talk about something else. At first glance I felt pretty good, until I realized that they are ALL spam! They invariably compliment my writing, and then link to some site either full of ads or trying to sell something. Basically, instead of comments saying “Diet pills, diet pills! Follow this link”, I’m getting comments that say “Well written. I agree with nearly all of your analysis. Get some diet pills here.” Be wary of clicking that “approve” button too quickly.
